• Nicolas Sarkozy steps onto the stage of a “Comedy club”. Through about eight sketches, he will go through the key moments of the campaign that led him to the Elysée, then of his five-year term in power (from the “kärcher” to the identity campaign of 2012, passing through the 2008 economic crisis and his meeting with Carla Bruni).

During the performance, Nicolas Sarkozy will interact, and sometimes confront, the audience. Here, the laughter is exhilarating because it is provocative, irritating, mean — in short, we’ll call it “right-wing” laughter. The stand-up becomes a metaphor for the “Sarkozian” embodiment of power: transgressions, love and self-exposure, vivacity.

In 2012, as he wants to stay on stage, N. Sarkozy is driven off stage by François Hollande.

The audience will witness a clown show (episode 5).

• F. Hollande’s clown enters the stage, full of promises of change, because “change is now”. Alas! His desk is crooked, France’s problems — unemployment, economic crisis, terrorism — weigh heavily, and everything falls apart despite the clown’s good intentions. Here, the show changes nature. Another kind of laughter is invoked, a more naive, less mean, perhaps more unifying laughter — in short, “left-wing” laughter.

The clown’s show, like, perhaps, F. Hollande’s mandate, will be swept away by the jihadist attacks of 2015, during which, in the President’s words, “it was French people who killed other French people.” As the names of the attack victims are listed, a spectator interrupts the show….
