« Written language tends to fragment, causing disidentification. I am no one. My oppressive search for the word is more of a spiritual than an intellectual exercise. The sacrifice of writing aligns with that of losing identity. Thus, all voices are alter egos. Alter ego writer. Alter ego poet. Alter ego dog. Alter ego loaded gun. »
The codes on which consciousness relies collapse. The meaning of discourse collapses. After exploring, in the first two parts of her trilogy, the hidden violence inherent in art history, Carolina Bianchi concludes her cycle by exploring the mystery of writing, which she associates with the enigma of her own sexuality. Through a rich assemblage of drafts, notebooks, and notes, she invokes the ghosts of other female authors – Hilda Hilst, Emily Dickinson – blending her voice with their words. Multiplying alter egos, she opens up a space conducive to fantasy, and particularly to that produced by the act of writing. The author and director appears here as a dissolving subject, slipping from one figure to another to question what, in literature, is tied to desire. In this concluding chapter, Carolina Bianchi traces the trilogy back to its point of origin: the decisive moment when writing, sexuality, and violence merge.
