Traditionally, the sitar is the virtuoso instrument used to highlight the traditional ragas of North Indian classical music, while the tabla brings out the subtleties of rhythm.

He embarked on his musical journey at a very young age under the tutelage of his father, Pandit Hara Shankar Bhattacharya, and with the attentive guidance of master Padmabhusahan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan Saheb.
A student of the Benaras Gharana master, Abhirup Roy is highly appreciated by audiences and recognised by musicians in Kolkata; he is an internationally renowned tabla virtuoso.
He has not only captivated audiences with his unique playing style but has also attracted people as much by his compositions as by the direction of his projects worldwide. Hindustani music is practised in North India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
It is one of the two major genres of Indian classical music, along with Carnatic music from South India.
