As part of Monaco's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Le Théâtre Princesse Grace presents Le rêve de Mercier, a play written by Alain Pastor and directed by Pascal Vitiello. Paris, July 1794, during the Reign of Terror.
Françoise-Thérèse de Choiseul-Stainville, a young French aristocrat who became Princess of Monaco through marriage, has been imprisoned for several months, awaiting her appearance before the Revolutionary Tribunal, which could lead her to the scaffold.
Is the sudden entry into her cell of the writer Louis-Sébastien Mercier, who had dreamed of a Revolution that would be “the most peaceful and the happiest,” a sign that she might be able to escape this cruel fate?
Especially as, in the shadows, a conspiracy against Robespierre, suspected of aspiring to dictatorship, is being hatched. An improbable encounter in a tragic historical context.
