Nous Sommes des Filles sans Histoire

This theatrical performance features two actresses. One is deaf and expresses herself in French Sign Language, while the other speaks in French. They question the way stories are told. The On Off company returns with a theatrical re-writing of Alice Zeniter's essay Je suis une fille sans histoire (Goncourt des Lycéens prize for L’Art de perdre).

In this work, she scrutinises the entire history of fiction, from foundational myths to literary masterpieces. Géraldine Berger and Isabelle Voizeux, the two actresses on stage, conduct an engaged investigation into the stories told. Their setup is simple and unadorned: they are accompanied by texts and images to share with the audience. From the Bechdel test to the basket theory of fiction, they provide tools to broaden our perspective on our patriarchal narrative schemes and to become aware of how these narratives influence us, with humour and subtlety.
