On the eve of the Allied landing in Normandy, 4 June 1944, Charles de Gaulle leaves Algiers for London where he has been “summoned”. A power struggle ensues with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The Americans and British want to force the brand new head of government to fall in line behind them. De Gaulle refuses. An stormy face-off between two giants of History, who feel a mixture of esteem and annoyance, fascination and exasperation for each other.
