Overview
When they meet, Madeleine is poor and Barthélémy is not rich; they share a love of a job well done. With an embroiderer as his muse, passion as his driving force, and stubbornness as his fuel, Barthélémy Thimonnier idealises the industrial revolution. He innovates. He takes the plunge. He invents! For himself, for his wife, for his family, for tailors, for embroiderers, he spends nights at the bedside of his machine, tinkering, optimising, modifying, repairing, and improving. And then, one fine day in 1830, he is ready. His sewing machine, the first sewing machine, works, and he is its inventor. So why did nothing go as expected?
More than a tribute to the man who, his whole life, was plagued by “bad luck”, this historical-comic show plunges us into the world of inventors and the cruelty of a society where there is no place for dreamers. We are in the 19th century... Since then, nothing has changed!
