About — The venue
Le Magasin-CNAC (named Magasin des Horizons from 2016 to 2022) is a national centre for art and culture situated near Cours Berriat in Grenoble. Initially named “Le Magasin, centre national d'art contemporain”, it was inaugurated on 26 April 1986 by François Léotard, Minister of Culture, as part of the Major Works undertaken during François Mitterrand's presidency with the support of the city and the state.
Its operation is modelled on the German Kunsthallen, venues dedicated to contemporary art where artists are highly involved. Le Magasin dedicates all its spaces to a programme of temporary exhibitions (renewed quarterly) and events, developed in close collaboration with the invited artists.
In September 2025, it will be awarded the label “centre d'art contemporain d'intérêt national”, becoming the third labelled contemporary art centre in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
