Aquarium de Paris

The Aquarium de Paris, formerly known as Cinéaqua – and historically the Aquarium du Trocadéro – is an aquarium situated beneath the Chaillot hill, between the Trocadéro (specifically within its gardens) and the Seine, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built in 1878, making it the world's first aquarium. Closed in 1985, it reopened in 2006. The visitor circuit spans 3,500 m2 underground.

The aquarium houses approximately 500 animal species of fish and invertebrates, and presents around 10,000 specimens. The Polynesian tank contains 750 corals. The main tank holds 38 sharks of seven different species in 3 million litres of water. This makes it the 2nd largest artificial tank in France, the largest being that of the Nausicaa aquarium in Boulogne-sur-Mer, with 10 million litres. In total, 5.3 million litres of water are distributed across 43 tanks and large aquariums; a 160,000-litre tank features a mermaid show, and is the second largest tank in the aquarium with its 34 cm thick glass weighing 24 tonnes.
