About — The artist
In Flames is a Swedish alternative metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. Along with At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity, In Flames contributed to the development of the melodic death metal genre initiated by Edge of Sanity. Since its inception, the band has released a total of thirteen studio albums and one live DVD.
In the band's early days, it featured various musicians. With the release of Colony (1999), the line-up stabilised. Their sixth album, Reroute to Remain (2002), was characterised by a sound more oriented towards alternative metal than their usual melodic death metal. This evolution was criticised by fans; however, this change allowed them to gain popularity and sell more albums. By 2008, In Flames had sold over two million records worldwide.
