Résurrection tells the story of a young man from a good family who leads a life of pleasure in a big city and finds himself on the jury at the trial of a woman accused of murder. He recognises his childhood sweetheart, who once worked for his family.

He abused her and got her pregnant before abandoning her. She became a prostitute. Desiring to atone for his wrongdoing, he tries to clear her name, but she refuses his help, forcing him to confront the consequences of his actions.

It's a theatre of conscience, exploring the quest for redemption and the possibility of forgiveness. Less iconic than other works by Leo Tolstoy, Résurrection finds a striking resonance with our times under the pen of Leïla Slimani.

Alongside director Simon Delétang, the author takes hold of this narrative to offer a committed and contemporary adaptation.
