« My intention is to adapt the text somewhat to tighten the plot around the four main couples (the Vatelin, the Pontagnac, the Soldignac, Rédillon and Armandine), and to erase the too pronounced traces of the 19th century which, in my opinion, wrongly distance these characters from us.
