To demonstrate historical fidelity, a Beethoven from before the “great heroic period” frames this programme. It’s an opportunity to explore a lesser-known facet of a composer who learns, absorbs, and transforms, while already imposing a very personal energy. Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 show two complementary faces. One prioritises drive, frankness of gesture, and rhythmic invention, while the other focuses more on the vivacity of dialogue and the art of surprise. Pianist Aristo Sham, gold medallist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will bring his virtuosity and sensitivity to these concertante pieces. Between these two milestones, Mozart's Symphony No. 30 offers an ideal counterpoint: elegance of form, contained theatricality, and mastery of timbre. Nothing illustrative, but rather a triangulation in which Mozart is a point of reference and Beethoven a force of extension. Don't miss the meeting with Holly Hyun Choe after the performance!
