François Gremaud's shows are big-hearted, with humour and intelligence never far away. The artist, with his stratospheric likeability, turns to his own brother Christian, who is Deaf, to do justice to his everyday heroism in a world not very inclined to adapt to difference. In a duo with his brother François, who translates for him live, Christian tells us his life in detail, his struggles and his pitfalls, in his own language, LSF.
As visual as it is poetic, French Sign Language has come a long way, having resisted repeated attempts at erasure. It is this stimulating vitality that this generous show highlights, making it a point of honour to convey hope and bring people together.
