A feminist parable ahead of its time, the revolutionary Carmen has planted some beautiful banderillas in the flanks of patriarchy.

A former dancer with the Béjart Ballet, now at the head of his own company, the choreographer shuffles the cards of gender and desire in an intense and sensitive contemporary adaptation for twelve performers.

The original plot of the opera is respected, but it is profoundly re-examined. The leader of the smugglers is replaced by a female figure of power, mirroring Carmen.

Together, these two heroines form a fascinating duo, two figures of revolt and emancipation, confronted by a masculine world that they defy in their own way.

The dance, elegant, expressive, and theatrical, powerfully conveys all the complexity of romantic feeling: attraction, rejection, fusion, betrayal. The music, too, breaks down boundaries.

Bizet's iconic score dialogues with lesser-known works by the composer, revisited by contemporary arrangements blending jazz, electro, guitar, piano, and voice. A rich, vibrant soundscape that echoes the burning modernity of this Carmen.
