Siège de l'Université Paris Cité

The École de médecine, formerly the École de chirurgie, is a historic university building in the Latin Quarter, located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, owned by the City of Paris.

Today, it is the headquarters of Université Paris-Cité, specialising in the teaching of medicine, law, and humanities and social sciences, and is also occupied by its inter-university health library and its museum of medical history.

Built on the site of the former Collège de Bourgogne by the architect Jacques Gondoin, the building was successively occupied by the Académie royale de chirurgie and its École de chirurgie for nearly twenty years (from 1776 to 1793) before the surgeons merged with the physicians who previously occupied the Hôtel de la Bûcherie. The building then became the École de santé de Paris, then the École de médecine de Paris in 1798, before being established as a faculty in 1808.

In 1798, the building, which had housed the Faculté de médecine de Paris since 1795, gave its name to the rue de l'Ecole-de-Médecine, formerly rue des Cordeliers.
