The Grévin Museum is a private wax museum, created by Arthur Meyer on June 5, 1882, owned by Grévin & Cie (a subsidiary of Compagnie des Alpes since its privatisation), located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, and housing wax reproductions of famous personalities.
The museum visit also includes the Théâtre Grévin (a performance hall) and the Palais des Mirages (an attraction using the principle of optical illusion). The Coupole room and the Colonnes room feature beautiful Baroque-style decorations dating from 1882.
It boasts no fewer than two hundred wax figures, ranging from Albert Einstein to Mahatma Gandhi, Michael Jackson, and Alfred Hitchcock. Many scenes from French history are recreated, such as the captivity of Louis XVI in the Temple or Joan of Arc at the stake.
Regularly, new personalities make their entrance into the Grévin Museum, replacing older figures that are removed.
