About — The venue
The Musée de l'Homme is a French national museum, part of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (MNHN), housed since 1937 on the upper floors of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. Its purpose is to present humankind in its anthropological, historical, and cultural diversity. It operates under the joint supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Ecology.
Heir to a prestigious history and highly frequented by the public, the Musée de l'Homme initially presented humankind in its evolutionary, anthropological, and ethnographic aspects (with, consequently, cultural, ethnobotanical, and ethnozoological aspects).
In 2009, President Jacques Chirac emptied the ethnographic collections of the Musée de l'Homme to create his Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques-Chirac. Another part of the collections joined the Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (MUCEM) in Marseille. Renovation work involved 96.6 million euros in investment from the Ministries of Higher Education and Research (95%) and Culture (5%), and the public reopening took place in 2015.
