About — The place
The Monnaie de Paris is France's national monetary institution. A public industrial and commercial establishment since 2007, its sovereign mission includes the minting of national currency. Created on 25 June 864 under the reign of Charles II by the Edict of Pîtres, it is one of the oldest companies in the world and the oldest French institution still in operation.
Until 2007, the Monnaie de Paris was the “commercial” name of the Directorate of Coins and Medals, which was part of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry. The Monnaie de Paris gained its autonomy and was granted legal personality by Finance Law no. 2006-1666 for 2007.
