Hôtel de la Marine

The Hôtel de la Marine (originally the Hôtel du Garde-Meuble de la Couronne) is a historic building and exhibition venue, located at 2 place de la Concorde, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

Situated to the east of a symmetrical complex of two buildings framing the Rue Royale, this edifice housed, before the Revolution, the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne (Royal Furniture Repository) under the authority of an intendant. This repository was not limited to furniture: it also preserved the Crown Jewels, precious fabrics, tapestries, and ceremonial weapons, while also hosting exhibition rooms dedicated to decorative arts. Subsequently, the building became the headquarters of the Navy's general staff and command. Restored between 2017 and early 2021, it saw the departure of military services and is now open to the public. Visitors can discover the former intendants' apartments, the loggia overlooking the square, the state and exhibition rooms, as well as the Al Thani Collection Museum and temporary exhibitions.

The western counterpart of the complex, initially intended to house the “Hôtel des Monnaies” (Mint), a project ultimately abandoned, consists of four private mansions:

at no. 4, the Hôtel de Coislin;

at no. 6, the Hôtel du Plessis-Bellière;

at no. 8, the Hôtel Cartier;

at no. 10, the Hôtel de Crillon.

Today, this complex notably houses the eponymous luxury hotel, the Automobile Club de France, and the Académie de marine.
