About — The place

The Chapelle expiatoire is a chapel located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, in the Île-de-France region.

It is a religious and commemorative complex dedicated to the memory of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette d'Autriche, the royal couple guillotined during the French Revolution, as well as to the Swiss Guards killed during and after the day of 10 August 1792.

This complex was built between 1815 and 1826. The chapel has been classified as a historical monument since 1914.
