About — The artist
Maarten Devoldere (born in 1988) is a Belgian singer-songwriter and producer. He began his career in 2010 at the age of 22 in the band Balthazar. In 2015, he started his solo project Warhaus.
He describes Balthazar's music as simply pop music. Balthazar had recorded three albums and one single before taking a break; the band members intended to return to record a fourth album planned for early 2018, which was eventually released in 2019.
For Warhaus, his solo project, he describes the style as a continuation of Leonard Cohen, but denser with influences from Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Dylan, and the ballads of Serge Gainsbourg. Three of the four albums from the Warhaus period were recorded with Devoldere's girlfriend, Sylvie Kreusch, a Belgian musician and model, who released her solo debut in 2018.
