About — The artist
Spirit is an American rock band, originally from Los Angeles. It was formed in 1967 by guitarist and singer Randy California (1951-1997, real name Randy Wolfe) and jazz drummer Ed Cassidy (1923-2012), his stepfather, supported by singer Jay Ferguson (born in 1947), bassist Mark Andes (born in 1948), and keyboardist John Locke (1943-2006).
Spirit's style blends influences from blues, rock, jazz, folk, and psychedelia, highlighting pure melodies. They are representative of the West Coast movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s in the United States.
