Peter Doherty

Peter Doherty, or Pete Doherty, born on March 12, 1979, in Hexham (Northumberland), is a British rock singer-songwriter. He is also a painter and actor.

After his studies, he formed the band The Libertines with Carl Barât as guitarist and singer. Two albums came out of this formation: Up the Bracket and The Libertines, which were critically acclaimed and brought them success. His tumultuous relationship with Carl made headlines in English tabloids multiple times, against a backdrop of drugs and disputes. After their separation, Doherty created the band Babyshambles, which produced two albums, met with mixed critical reception. In 2009, he released a solo album (Grace/Wastelands), which announced his return to calm, and was acclaimed by the press.

His writing is characterised by a very strong poetic style. His masters are Oscar Wilde and William Blake, and his main themes are Albion and Arcadia, Albion being the poetic name given to England, but also the ship that is to lead to Arcadia, an earthly paradise.

In 2012, he began an acting career, playing the role of Octave in Confession d'un enfant du siècle by Sylvie Verheyde, presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.
