Olive

Olive is a British trip hop group from London. Two of its members, producers Tim Kellett and Robin Taylor-Firth, had left their respective groups, Simply Red and Nightmares on Wax, before forming Olive with singer Ruth-Ann Boyle. Kellett had met her during recordings for a live concert by The Durutti Column.

In 1996, the group released its first single, You're not Alone. The song was not an immediate success, and it was only a year later that it reached the top of the charts. The album Extra Virgin, recorded in 1995, was released the same year. A little later, the single Outlaw achieved similar success to You're not Alone.

In 2000, Olive released its second album, Trickle. Taylor-Firth had left the group, and the album had a more dance-oriented sound. The song “I'm not in Love” was featured in The Next Best Thing, the soundtrack to the film Un couple presque parfait.

Since then, and like many trip-hop groups, Olive has kept a low profile. The group has ceased its activities. Tim Kellett composes for other artists. Ruth-Ann Boyle has worked on a solo album.
