About — The artist
Boyd Blake Rice (born December 16, 1956) is an American experimental musician who has used the name NON since the mid-1970s. A pioneer of industrial music, Rice is one of the first artists to use a sampler and a phonograph as an instrument.
He is known for his use of provocation in art. His musical work, evolving from atonal compositions towards more melodic creations, is marked by a philosophy inspired by social Darwinism, notably the work Might Is Right.
Associated with the Church of Satan in the 1980s as a priest and then magister, he also maintained relationships with neo-Nazi groups in the late 1980s, defining himself as a fascist before beginning to distance himself from the term from the 1990s onwards.
Rice is also known for his interest in Tiki culture.
