Nadau

Nadau (pronounced: [naˈðaw]), known as Los de Nadau until 1991, meaning “Christmas” or “Those of Christmas” in Gascon, Béarnese, and Occitan, is a Gascon-Béarnese music group created in 1973 that celebrates Gascon and, more broadly, Occitan culture. Nadau's longevity and notoriety are unparalleled in the Occitan music scene. As such, Nadau extends far beyond the borders of its Béarnese and Gascon base, becoming over the years an essential act in contemporary Occitan song, now one of Occitania's emblematic groups. Largely shunned by the French press and music industry, Nadau has performed four times at the Olympia (2000, 2005, 2010, and 2014).

The group is based in Labastide-Cézéracq, a Béarnese commune located near Pau.

The songs De cap tà l'immortèla and L'encantada are the two most famous in their Occitan repertoire, as well as, in French, Mon Dieu que je suis à mon aise. The latter, in fact an adaptation of a popular French tune from the early 18th century, is also sung in Basque.

The group Nadau has given over eight hundred concerts, released nine albums (four on CD), six videos, and sold over 60,000 records. The group's videos have been viewed over 40 million times on their YouTube channel.

Nadau has also performed in the oldest concert hall in the world, the Holywell Music Room.
