About — The artist
Megadeth is an American thrash metal band, originally from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine's dismissal from his previous band, Metallica.
After the line-up stabilised in the 1990s, Megadeth released numerous platinum-certified albums, including Rust in Peace which popularised the band. In 2002, Megadeth was temporarily inactive following Mustaine's left arm injury. However, the band returned in 2004, but without bassist David Ellefson, who was at the time in conflict with Dave Mustaine. Ellefson finally rejoined the band in 2010, and remained until 2021.
By the end of 2018, the band had sold approximately 50 million albums worldwide.
In 2026, the band will release its final album titled Megadeth, which will be followed by a long farewell tour, bringing an end to over 40 years of career.
