About — The artist
Jean Reno, whose real name is Juan Herrera Jiménez Moreno (/ʒɑ̃ ʁe.no/), is a French-Spanish actor born on 30 July 1948 in Casablanca (Morocco).
Besson chose him to play the main roles in Le Grand Bleu (1988), Nikita (1990, a secondary rather than main role) and Léon (1994). He also gained great popularity thanks to Jean-Marie Poiré's comedy, Les Visiteurs (1993) and its sequels.
He alternates between comedies, dramas and thrillers such as L'Opération Corned Beef (1991), Le Jaguar (1996), Les Rivières pourpres (2000), Wasabi (2001), Tais-toi ! (2003), Les Rivières pourpres 2 : Les Anges de l'apocalypse (2004), L'Enquête corse (2004), La Rafle (2010) and L'Immortel (2010).
He is one of the rare French actors to have a significant international career, particularly in the United States. He has appeared in French Kiss (1995), Mission impossible (1996), Godzilla (1998), Ronin (1998), Rollerball (2002), Hôtel Rwanda (2004), Da Vinci Code (2005), La Panthère rose (2006), Flyboys (2006), Blindés (2009), Alex Cross (2012) and The Last Face (2016).
