About — The artist
Jean-Luc Jeener is a French author, director, actor, and theatre critic born on 5 March 1949. He has written around forty plays, most of which have been published and performed. Since 1997, he has been the director of the Théâtre du Nord-Ouest in Paris.
A theology graduate and a Catholic, Jean-Luc Jeener advocates for a theatre of "incarnation", an expression chosen for its Christian tone. In his manifesto Pour un théâtre chrétien, he draws a parallel between the dual human and divine nature of Christ and the actor's experience of becoming the character while remaining themselves. In his productions, the search for the psychological truth of the characters is paramount.
