About — The artist
The term 'groove' comes from the English expression 'in the groove' (literally 'in the furrow'), meaning 'in rhythm' or 'on point' in jazz musicians' slang. The term has been used in Black American popular music since the 20th century. It initially referred to a 'regular rhythm', then an 'inspired performance' or 'superb playing' (hence the verb 'to groove', meaning 'to play in an inspired way', 'to play magnificently well'), and finally a musical style with warm sounds and a swaying rhythm, blending funk, dance, and soul.
