Gregorio Allegri (born Gregorio Costantino in 1582 in Rome – died February 17, 1652, in the same city) was an Italian priest, church singer, and composer.
He is considered one of the most important Roman composers of his time. He is the author of a very famous Miserere (Psalm 50). He lived mainly in Rome.
His elder brother, Domenico Allegri, had also embraced ecclesiastical life and was also a composer (at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere). Son of a coachman named Costantino, he formed the name Allegri from his grandfather's first name, Allegro.
