About — The artist
Germaine Acogny, born in Porto-Novo on 28 May 1944, is a Franco-Beninese dancer and choreographer, a prominent figure in the history of dance since founding her first African dance studio in Dakar in 1968.
She has created a synthesis of traditional West African dances and contemporary Western dances, within a pedagogy rooted in active spirituality. She was ranked among the "50 most influential African personalities in the world" in 2014 by Jeune Afrique magazine.
