About — The artist
Frank Lebœuf, born on 22 January 1968 in Marseille, is a former French international footballer who played as a central defender between 1984 and 2005.
After a sometimes complicated start in football with several lower-division clubs, but through sheer perseverance, he finally made his professional debut at the age of 20 with Stade lavallois. He then joined RC Strasbourg and later Chelsea, with whom he won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 1998, as well as two FA Cups in 1997 and 2000. He ended his career in Qatar after a two-year return to France with Olympique de Marseille.
Capped fifty times, scoring four goals, for the French national team, he captained the side on three occasions during his career. He was a starter in the Bleus' victory at the 1998 World Cup and also won the UEFA European Championship in 2000 and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2001.
Since retiring from his sporting career, he has become a theatre and film actor.
Since the 2006 World Cup, he has regularly been engaged as a consultant and commentator in sports media. First on M6, then NT1 and Eurosport. Since 2013, he has appeared on RMC Sport TV shows and radio programmes on the eponymous radio station and on ESPN.
