Etran De L'Aïr

Étran de L'Aïr ("The Stars of the Aïr" in Tamasheq) is a Nigerien rock band composed of brothers and cousins, all of whom grew up in Agadez, Niger, in the small district of Abalane. The band formed in 1995 and began by playing at weddings in Niger before achieving international success.

The band is currently signed to Sahel Sounds and tours internationally. They have released three albums: "No. 1" in 2018, "Agadez" in 2022, and "100 % Sahara Guitar" in 2024. The band's first album, "No. 1", was named best album of the year by Amanda Petrusich of The New Yorker. All of the band's albums have received positive reviews.

The band typically consists of three guitarists, who frequently switch instruments during concerts, all three being as skilled on bass as they are on guitar.

Their style, rich in amplified guitars, is derived from Tuareg desert blues (tichoumaren) — a genre popularised by Tinariwen in the 1970s and 1980s — and combines elements of traditional Tuareg music with elements from blues and rock. They sing in a Berber language, Tamasheq.
