About — The artist
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, born on June 11, 1960, in Mechelen, Belgium, is a Flemish Belgian dancer and choreographer. She is a major figure in Belgian and global contemporary dance. She rose to prominence in the early 1980s by renewing the connections between dance and music. In 1983, she founded the Rosas company, within which she developed her own choreographic language, with over sixty choreographies to her credit to date. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker served as the choreographic director of La Monnaie theatre in Brussels from 1992 to 2007. In 1995, she founded P.A.R.T.S., an internationally recognized contemporary dance school.
On July 15, 2025, she will be the second Belgian personality to receive the “Nobel Prize of the Arts”, the Praemium Imperiale, in Japan, following the painter Pierre Alechinsky who received it in 2018.
