About — The artist
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is a modern dance company based in New York. It was founded in 1958 by the African-American dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey, who passed away in 1989. The company comprises around thirty dancers, under the artistic direction of Robert Battle since 2011 and his associate artistic director Masazumi Chaya.
