Alice Guy / Germaine Dulac / Maya Deren / Marie Menken: the pioneers of cinematic experimentation. Cine-concert for a multi-instrumentalist, by Olivier Longre (composition and performance), as part of the Monte le son 2026 'Ô féminins' festival.

This cine-concert by Olivier Longre pays tribute to four major female figures in cinema from the first half of the 20th century.

Visionary, driven by their convictions and their perception of the world, Alice Guy, Germaine Dulac, Maya Deren and Marie Menken set out, without any pretension, to redefine the language and functions of cinema.

Long remaining in the shadow of their contemporaries, they managed to forge their own path, outside official narratives, creating their own structures and inventing forms freed from institutional frameworks.

Their poetic, committed and experimental works still resonate today with their modernity and independence of spirit. Five of their emblematic films will be screened, each accompanied by original music played live.

The session will begin with an oral presentation of the filmmakers and their works. A multi-instrumentalist, Olivier Longre has composed an original score that blends minimalism, acoustic textures, effects and soundscapes.

His rich instrumentation – guitars, percussion, samples, keyboards, clarinet, harmonica, mandolin, sound objects – accompanies each film with a new breath, creating a sensitive dialogue between image and music.

Composer, sound designer and musician, Olivier Longre cultivates a unique and visual approach, exploring countless textures and sound assemblages.

A multi-instrumentalist with varied influences, he constructs a universe where musical creation becomes a unique sensitive and sensory experience.

A regular collaborator with Radio France for many years, he sets to music readings, theatre and radio dramas, as well as numerous sound creations based on emblematic classical and contemporary texts.

His creations also extend to images with music for documentary films, theatre (Comédie-Française, Théâtre de la Ville, Festival d'Avignon), as well as in albums of painted works.
