A founding father of the United States and an ambassador for Enlightenment ideas, this great visionary championed subversive ideas at the time, such as the abolition of slavery.
Mocked and humiliated, he narrowly escaped hanging in England and the guillotine in France, and was denied the right to vote upon his return to America.
