The London City Ballet combines the excellence of the classical repertoire with the modernity of contemporary writing. After three decades of absence, the London City Ballet is reborn with brilliance under the artistic direction of Christopher Marney and is now a major player in the choreographic landscape. John Neumeier presents a new version of his 2020 creation, Ghost Light. It offers us a glimpse into the spirits of those artists who once graced our stages. When the curtain falls and the theatre darkens, a light illuminates the memory of these performers whose footsteps we now follow. The dancers will be accompanied on this occasion by pianist Reina Okada. Originally created for the Royal Danish Ballet, this bold version of L’Oiseau de Feu by American choreographer Glen Tetley tells the story of a young woman's emancipation as she breaks free from the grip of an authoritarian family — a pioneer who leaves the nest, embraces her difference, and leads her peers towards freedom.
