Once upon a time… the most beautiful of danced tales. Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty represents the pinnacle of classical ballet: dance asserts itself as a major art form. “Today, The Sleeping Beauty remains for me the perfect accomplishment of symphonic dance, the ballet of ballets,” Rudolf Nureyev once said. Indeed, Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by Marius Petipa after the tale by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, is one of the most popular classical ballets. Combining the magic of its plot with the virtuosity of its roles, it is performed today by most major classical companies.

The Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora, endowed with every quality in the world thanks to the benevolence of her godmothers, kind fairies, but whom the wicked fairy Carabosse condemns to an eternal sleep on her sixteenth birthday. Tchaikovsky's score, in its fervour and flamboyance, provides a superb setting for the splendour of the choreography, the ensembles, the numerous variations, the character dances, and enchanting pas de deux, foremost among which is the grand final pas de deux. This show is a treat for all dance admirers. The performance by the Russian artists from the renowned Grand Ballet de Kiev leaves no one indifferent. It is a show for the whole family, for young and old alike, a touching and wonderful symphony of dance, a masterpiece of classical ballet.
