She is 98 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance as a wrinkled old apple gives no hint of the heroic actions she accomplished during the Second World War: 2500 Jewish children saved from the Warsaw Ghetto and deportation.
While three high school girls from Kansas, Liz, Megan, and Sabrina, investigate the life of this heroine, Irena, in her room, summons the ghosts of her past. She reconstructs fragments of a fading memory, so that the unimaginable remains forever etched.
This polymorphic show tightly weaves together fiction and historical reality, past and present, flesh-and-blood actresses and object-puppets.
Juste Irena recounts the ills of yesterday to prevent those of today, resonates with notions of courage and humanity, and illuminates both grand and small histories. But there are no grand or small stories in life: there is LIFE!
