Any Young Mechanic

Any Young Mechanic arrives in Paris! The Australian band will present their modern and cinematic folk music at Babour Sauvage on 21 October 2026. Hailing from Adelaide, Any Young Mechanic composes music at the crossroads of folk, orchestral pop, and indie rock.

Driven by lyrics populated with singular characters, intimate stories, and imaginary landscapes, the quintet transforms each song into a true cinematic scene. Violin, banjo, double bass, guitars, and keyboards intertwine to create a universe as rich as it is moving.

Formed within Adelaide's independent music scene, the band brings together five musicians from classical and contemporary backgrounds.

Inspired as much by Bob Dylan and Big Thief as by the new British scene represented by Black Midi and Black Country, New Road, they seek to reinvent folk by bringing it a resolutely contemporary energy and sensibility.

Their first album, The Modern Shoe Is Ruining The Foot, was recorded collectively in just three days, without overdubs or editing. This raw and organic approach gives the twelve tracks a rare immediacy, as if the band were playing directly in the room with the listener.

Between delicate melodies, instrumental flights, and captivating narratives, Any Young Mechanic offers 21st-century folk that is vibrant, ambitious, and profoundly human.
