Alela Diane, an indie-folk singer from Portland, releases Looking Glass, her sixth studio album, marked by a profound personal transition. Recorded as she was leaving the home where she had experienced marriages, motherhood, and upheavals, the album captures the emotional turmoil of this period. A mother of two young children and facing the challenges of the pandemic, Diane drew on a new discipline, rising each morning at dawn to compose. Looking Glass, produced by Tucker Martine, with arrangements by Heather Woods Broderick, features prestigious guests such as Carl Broemel and Scott Avett. Shortly after recording, she moved with her family into a Victorian house to restore, a project laden with meaning and childhood memories. True to her timeless aesthetic, the album's title echoes both a 19th-century mirror and Lewis Carroll's inverted world, symbolising passage, reflection, and the unexpected. Through this album, Diane continues a sensitive exploration of motherhood, home, and the passage of time.
