For the 4th edition of our À vos classiques! series, these concerts will showcase French music from the early 20th century. Under the baton of South Korean conductor Juya Shin, this programme weaves a web of correspondences where transmission is central.

Gabriel Fauré, whose suite Masques et bergamasques is performed, was close to Lili Boulanger’s family and Maurice Ravel’s teacher.

Tributes echo from one generation to the next: Claude Debussy dialogues with the past in his Hommage à Rameau, while Jean Françaix celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Ravel’s death with his Pavane pour un génie vivant, a mirror held up to the master’s famous Pavane pour une infante défunte.

Alongside Albert Roussel’s Concert pour petit orchestre, the audience will feel the contrasting tensions of Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps and D’un soir triste. Finally, this programme highlights the art of orchestration.

It is thanks to the pen of Maurice Ravel and contemporary composer Camille Pépin that certain pieces by Debussy and Boulanger find their symphonic colours in this programme.
