Voyage en terre baroque - Masterclass avec Patrick Cohen-Akhenine

In this masterclass, violin students will discover the specificities of playing baroque instruments, through works by Vivaldi, Bach, Telemann, and Corelli.

Baroque music, which flourished in Europe from the early 17th century to the mid-18th century, is music of movement, contrasts, and emotions. It is constructed like a true language, where every note, every silence, every ornament can tell a story.

On the violin, it invites players to perform with freedom, to bring phrases to life, and to explore a rich palette of colours and characters.

From Corelli to Vivaldi, from Telemann to Bach, this repertoire offers a formidable ground for discovery, combining virtuosity, expressiveness, and the joy of playing together.

Violinist and pedagogue, Patrick Cohen-Akhenine is a recognised figure in the interpretation of early music.

He will share his experience and knowledge of the baroque repertoire with the students, inviting them to discover the specificities of playing historical instruments and the interpretative principles unique to this music.

Sound production, articulation, phrasing, ornaments, and musical rhetoric will be explored to help them develop their playing and give more meaning and freedom to their interpretation.

During this masterclass, students will work on pieces from the baroque repertoire, notably works by Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, and Telemann. The masterclass will conclude with the Pastorale from Corelli's Concerto grosso for Christmas Eve, performed by all the students.
