A variable-geometry ensemble, all graduates of Royal Conservatories and winners of international competitions, ASTORIA NUEVO succeeds in asserting its identity through the energy, rigour, and emotion that emanate from its interpretation. For over two decades, ASTORIA NUEVO has offered various artistic variations on the undisputed master of Argentinian tango, Astor Piazzolla. In 2026, the ensemble raises the bar even higher with a new Piazzollesque show, TANGO PASSION. Emotions, passion, wild rhythms, tradition, new sounds, contemporary choreographies, modernity, pleasures. Astor Piazzolla's “tango nuevo” is influenced by traditional tango, jazz improvisations, polyrhythm, bold harmonies, as well as “serious” music under the influence of Bach, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Bartok.
