We are who we are by Michael Incarbone and Max Gomard
One generation, two origins. In a duo, the Italian multidisciplinary artist Michael Incarbone and the French choreographer and dancer Max Gomard engage in a playful and deeply embodied dialogue about the friction between identities and cultural stereotypes. Rebellious and impactful. After Fallen Angels, a highly acclaimed solo that questioned the fall as an emotional and existential state, as well as contemporary representation models inscribed in bodies, Michael Incarbone continues his exploration of the influence of injunctions on bodily behaviours in co-creation with Max Gomard. Together, they observe how the social gaze shapes the attitudes and images we produce of ourselves. Based on stereotypes associated with cultures, particularly around French and Italian gestures, the duo deconstructs clichés to better refute them. In the midst of this gap between what is expected of us and what we are, their danced joust breaks down walls, thus creating space for the invention of new languages.
