Pecan Pie : le Texas des cowboys en 68 pellicules

Father and son photographers Marin and Norbert Gilbert immerse us in the world of Texan cowboys, between rodeos, portraits, and scenes of daily life.

In 2025, Marin and Norbert Gilbert, father and son, travelled to Texas with their cameras and 68 rolls of film. Long fascinated by the figure of the cowboy, they set off with a question in mind: what is a cowboy today?

Introduced to the rodeo world by a French champion, they travelled across Texas, attending several competitions and meeting those who keep this universe alive.

Gradually, their gaze shifted from the arena to everything surrounding it: families, ranchers, artisans, children, animals, and spectators. Pecan Pie brings together the images born from this journey.

Between rodeo scenes, portraits, landscapes, and fragments of daily life captured on the fly, the two photographers compose a sensitive narrative of contemporary Texas.

The spectacular coexists with the ordinary: horses galloping in the arena and dust rising to the rhythm of hooves respond to waiting times, preparation gestures, and everyday scenes.

Between candid shots and more constructed photographs, the exhibition thus creates a dialogue between the cinematic power of the Western and a certain poetry of daily life.

Without seeking to celebrate or deconstruct the myth of the cowboy, Pecan Pie invites us to look at what appears when we broaden the frame: the individuals, the relationships, and the world that continues to keep this figure alive today.

The exhibition extends the photographic book Pecan Pie, self-published by Marin and Norbert Gilbert. Opening reception and book launch on Thursday 8 October from 6 pm.
