After Paris and the roads of France, Lorànt Deutsch once again delves into French history, this time examining… our language. First surprise: the ancestor of French is not Gaulish but "Roman", the Roman language derived from Julius Caesar's Latin, the conqueror of Gaul.
Over the course of invasions and conquests, this Latin was enriched by contributions from all sides, before becoming the triumphant French of our philosophers, so highly prized in the courts of 18th-century Europe.
Lorànt Deutsch here puts his storytelling talent to the service of a fascinating subject, as much for history buffs as for linguists. The actor invites us to better understand and savour the French language.
